How to Put Yourself in the Right Place at the Right Time

“I was in the right place at the right time.” This is often what others say to brush off what seems like an amazing coincidence that moves their life in a new desired direction. It attributes a break through to good luck, to happenstance.

One beautiful summer, Katie and I were in the right place at the right time. Not just because it happened, but because we had the foresight to plan it and the discipline to carry through on it.

Katie and I made a conscious effort to step out of the “day to day” and into space by the sea. We bought plane tickets and had a place to stay. We know that by the sea we could reevaluate. We could refocus. We could recharge.

We took long walks that fostered deep discussions. Those discussions led to go-forward decisions. We soaked in beautiful sun rises and stunning sun sets and used that inspiration to help us think better and bigger.

In our week at the ocean we did strategic planning for LEAP. We reviewed, from top to bottom, what we were learning. What those we serve need. What was working. What was not. Where we wanted to head. How we were going to get there.

You can see the results of that work by looking around our newly re-designed website, particularly under the Programs page.

Checking Out to Check In

Time and time again, I am awed by the outcomes of taking yourself out of your day to day to focus on your future. It’s how I put myself in the right place at the right time. In the past, I’ve called these “days of discernment” and spent time in cabins in the woods, in the mountains, or by the ocean. And each time, without fail, I’ve come out of these days of “checking out” ready to “check in” with greater clarity, deep insights, and renewed vision.

Which is exactly why, as we reviewed our LEAP offerings, we are committed to creating the same experiences for others as they launch their independent consulting practices. While we could hold Intensives in a hotel conference room in a big city, we won’t. Instead we commit to gathering people in beautiful spaces where you can check out, breathe, reflect and be inspired by the environment.

For we know that taking the step into independent consulting is a big one. One that should be conceived with care, with inspiration, with clear thinking. It our vow to create a space that allows for that within our Prosper Consulting Community.

Learn more at your own pace by reading Kris Taylor’s book, Owning It: Take Control of Your Life, Work, and Career, where you’ll be able to assess your readiness for making the leap to independence and identify any problem areas that you’ll need to overcome.
